Frequently Asked Questions

Cupping therapy is a Sunnah and it is an old traditional method of placing cups made of glass, bamboo, or other materials on specific areas of the body to treat different conditions. The cups create a suction effect that is used to treat inflammation, increase blood circulation, help with pain, and as a form of massage therapy.

You may have noticed athletes with circular bruise-like marks or raised circles on their backs or shoulders. These marks are likely from dry cupping therapy. Dry cupping is a complementary healing modality rooted in traditional Medicine.
Proponents of this modality say cupping can treat pain and restore order in the body by unblocking disturbances in the circulation, energy channels and pathways of the body. Cupping has been used for nearly 2,000 years in traditional medicine.

Hijama therapy is a minor surgical procedure that is also known as Wet Cupping, it’s a therapy used to remove harmful toxins from your body in order to improve the blood circulation in the body. Moreover, it is a widely practised by Muslims as it is a Sunnah of the Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him). Hence, cupping therapy is also known as a Prophetic Medicine, which has been prescribed to the nation as a means of treatment and cure.

Hijama cupping therapy removes blood and tissue fluids mixed with potentially harmful substances.
Therapeutic benefits of Hijama cupping is not related to the amount of blood drawn out but to the number of excreted toxins.

On a general, systemic level, cupping improves the circulation of blood and lymph. It also regulates and improves the functioning of the autonomic nervous system.
Locally, the most obvious benefit of cupping is a relief of pain and a relaxation and increased suppleness of stiff tendons and muscles.

Cupping has a dramatic detoxifying effect on the skin and circulatory system. By increasing the flow of blood and plasma through the veins and arteries, cupping enhances the cleansing and removal of toxins.

The treatment involves a negative pressure or suction being applied by a cup in order to create a vacuum to draw the toxins to the surface of the skin, then applying small, superficial scratches i.e. making small incisions to excrete the toxins out of the body.

Hijama can be mildly uncomfortable but rarely painful. It looks worse than it feels. Hijama can even be relaxing. Then negative pressure (suction) feels like slight pinching sensation, While the incisions feel like minor scratches or even feel like someone is touching you with the tip of a pen.

once every 3 months

For a healthy individual who exercises regularly and eats a healthy diet Hijama cleanse could be recommended once every 3 months, especially during hot weather and before the change of seasons.
